I have been trying to find the groove but it is infrequent when I use this method. I have been trying to find the best way to hold 225 while the air is wide open. I am doing this to try and get a better, more complete, clean burn with briquettes. How do you get your temps up?

I had 275f with 2h x 2w x1 on top stacks.

The start of the method for the first few hours seem to be great and then I find I lack the coals. I will try this next time. I tried 2h x 2w before and I seemed to keep it at 1/4 open most of the cook. It was very consistent though. Now that I think about it, it was a different charcoal.
If you do a 2 layer ring. 2X1 you will probably hover between 225-250 with your vents wide open.
I would personally learn to cook at a higher temp on the kettle. It is much eaiser to run between 250-300 degrees with the ring of fire method and vents wide open.
