I'm going to be cooking up some briskets and pork for a 4th of July block party in my neighborhood for about 200 and need to figure out how much to buy. The guy putting on the party said he wants "a lot of meat". How many of each do you think? I was thinking around 4 or 5 of each would be plenty but need some Brethren advise! This will be the only meat there except for some dogs for the kids. Thanks!

1/2 lb finished per person requires 1 lb per person raw. So 200 lbs worth. That 20- 10 lb butts or 10-10lb Butts and 7 - 15 lb Briskets. :biggrin1:

But Butts have a higher yield so 7-10 lb Butts and 7 - 15 lb Briskets. :heh:

I try to calculate meat based on sides. 1 or 2 sides 1LB raw per person, several sides .5LBS raw per person. I got this from several brethren and it works pretty good. Remember it's better to have too much than not enough. Also for me the brisket always goes first.

I just did 6-10 pound butts and 4-13 pound briskets and 60 pounds of wings for my son's grad party for about the same amount of people(200). Plus we had sides and 3 other main dishes. The brisket went first, ran out.Ran out of wings at the end of party.Pork was the right amount. Sliced the flat and shredded the point. Party went on for about 8 hours.Hope that helps.Good luck.
