I haven't yet tried to grill on my Rec Tec. For those of you who use Grill Grates on pellet grills for higher-heat grilling, do you:

1. Just keep the heat shield and drip tray in place and crank up the heat

2. Replace the heat shield with some sort of direct grilling shield (either of your own making or something commercially available, including from the maker of your pit) that lets more direct heat through

3. Remove the heat shield and drip tray and have nothing between the fire pot and the Grill Grates.

I realize that how you accomplish this may depend a bit on how your particular pellet cooker is set up. But wondering what my options are here.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I thought a few of you used Grill Grates on a pellet cooker.

I leave the diffuser in if I want even temps across the whole grate and remove it if I want a 2 zone set up. Note: this is on a Yoder 640.
