What is the difference between a Maverick ET 732 and an ET 733 thermometer ? Which is better, or are there better options? I am tired of wasting money on the Wal-Mart and Lowes specials, but I also don't want to break the bank.

Thanks,
Tom

The receiver is totally different. The 732 is based around the idea that you have 1 probe measuring pit temp, and 1 probe measuring meat temp. So the pit probe can alarm outside a range (like beep if the pit is below 200 or over 250), the meat probe only alarms above a temperature (like beep above 195).

The 733 has more flexibility, either probe can be a pit or meat temp, and it even ships with the newer hybrid probes (shorter than a meat probe, but with a pointed end). It has a few convenience features, like you can adjust temperatures up or down instead of only going up until it wraps around. Downside is the temperature numbers are harder to read, the LCD on the 732 is much clearer with bigger numbers. You can see it more easily across the room.

It's really up to you which you want to buy. They're just different, one isn't necessarily better than the other.

Awesome!! Looks like for the additional $10 the 733 is the way to go.

got the 733 about a month ago now and I love it. I've never used the 732, but the added features on the 733 made it worth the extra $10... mainly the flexibility on how I use the probes.

I have had a 732 for several years and love it.
One small point/clarification--Using the dual purpose probes you can monitor two meat temps if ya want. One does not need to be a dedicated pit temp probe.
The alarms do differ as Dave said above.

No experience with the 733 so can't compare them.

Great unit!

Can you use duel probes with the 732 as well or does that only work with the 733?

I have 2 ET732s. Typical use is 1 pit probe and 3 meat probes (I have 2 probe ports on my YS640; 2 probes go through each).
