When replacing the felt gasket on a kamado cooker, would using the gasket normally found in an oven work? Has anyone had experience using something other than felt?

Seems to me if it was too thick, it wouldn't seal properly. If it was me, I'd go with an appropriate gasket:

I've seen guys use high-temp gaskets, like for a wood burning stove. I always use felt with adhesive backing and have had no probs. Clean the old felt residue off really well before you put the new one on.
