Heres my first built bbq chicken grill. Meadow Creek Bbq 42 replica..grate size is 48" x 30". Box is made out of 11 gauge mild steel. So far a $190 into it. Need advice on painting from all you experts out there..

I would make a charcoal/firewood rack that keeps the really hot stuff 2"-4" fron the steel then just use a good high temp paint like Rustoleum.

PS: I like to use quarts & a HVLP gun for good even coverage, not rattle cans.

I was thinking 2" steel angle welded on floor for the charcoal rack..Does the high heat rustoleum paints sells at Home Depot works for bbq grills? Painting over hot rolled mill scale wont be problem peeling off in a long run?

The lid is 8 inches above the grate. The sandwich grate can be flipped over, no need to flip each bbq one at time over the hot coals..

Nice chicken cooker! Some Rustoleum High Heat paint on the outside only and you'll be all set. Comes in six colors and is supposedly good to 2000 degrees.

This is what I've been using, no primer but clean the steel with TSP or alcohol.

It still might loose it's satin finish if it gets to hot but I have not had it peel.

I've been thinking of giving some of this a try on my next build.
