Weedburner question

Finally assembled all the parts for my UDS build.
My drum is an open top from a refurbisher that has no liner or rust inhibitor (I'm assuming because there is light rust on the inside)
Picked up a Harbor freight weedburner to burn out the drum and strip the paint but it doesn't seem to be working.
So the question is how long should it take for the paint to peel off?

First cut what ever intakes in the bottom you are going to have, then you still need to burn it out, because you really do not know what it had in it, plus it will take the paint off better. Use one or two wood pallets cut up if you can, or some other form of fuel, get it cherry red if you can, the intakes being cut out will help with that. The weed burner is nice to have but usually it will not be enough to take the paint off without burning a ton of propane, it will come in handy later on. After is is cooled it should sand off very easily after the burn out.
