after all the snow we have had this year I havent been moving my smokers around back to cook, I have been just using them out front then shutting the dampers and putting them in the atached garage, last night at about 3am the carbon monoxide alarm goes off, first thought was crap the smoker? it was out and the alarm in the garage didnt seem to go off right away, so the wife and kids went out in the truck and called the the fire dept, they traced it to the smoker in the garage that was out.. Long story short dont do what i did and posiibly feed the family a last meal...

Odd that the garage unit didn't go off, but glad one of them did and everyone is safe.

CO detectors are so cheap. Everyone should have at least one in their home. Glad you and Family safe.

Also happened to a friend. They also were lucky. Sounds like the same scenario also.

Damn that's scary. I use my WSM in my back shed all the time and I just use a fan to blow the smoke out . I can't believe your unlit pit would put Carbon monoxide in your home.

Sounds strange, i would not think a smoker with shut dampers could produce enough CO for a garage. Single car or double car garage?

Thank God you had a working detector. It surely saved you and your family's life.

Its a single atatched garage, and i thought the same theres no way it could happen with the dampers shut, especially with the big garage door that does not seal along the floor, thats why i posted it right away. Maybe the night was just calmer than the other nights i did the same thing and it seaped into the house, the gas company came back today and remeasured the house and it was zero, so after i smoked my bacon today that thing stayed outside until it was off.

The people that used to own the hog processing plant out here were killed by carbon monoxide, the alarm went off and they disconnected it, thinking it cant be. Its not something to mess around with thats for sure

Glad you are all ok, this is exactly I have CO alarms in my house! Such cheap insurance, honestly are you willing to put a price on your family's well being?
