First i'd get the pork, chicken and beef dogs but now i'm an all beef dog eater and I used to only grill them.
I'm figuring most people mostly grill them because it's too much trouble or just takes too long smoking. Now i only smoke them...heck i can wait a half hour or so to have one that tastes about ten times as good. :-D

I like to pan fry mine and serve on a buttered pan toasted bun. I've only done dogs on the grill once in the last few years and that was for a Throw Down. BUT those were definitely smoked, then given a little kiss of fire at the end.

I usually grill them (sometimes pan fry) and always use the pork/chicken. I tried the all beef. They cost more and were not as good in my opinion (And I love beef). I have never tried to smoke them. Maybe that makes a difference. Maybe I should try the beef again and smoke it next time?

We usually grill dogs. But I love getting fresh brats and smoking them really low for a couple of hours in the Yoder.

Yep. I smoke brats, hot links, boudin, and misc sausage. Just not hotdogs. Guess I'm not to picky when it comes to hotdogs.

Oh. Forgot. I DO double smoke Kielbasa and other smoked sausages, but those are used in different dishes than just a sandwich.

I can't believe I'm the only one so far that only smokes them for the most part....i have started steaming them once in a while when i'm in a real hurry.

If they get cooked outside, grilled. I love a char dog.

But, more than likely they get steamed and served Chicago style.

Depends on what is going on and how many people I am feeding, but I prefer to spiral cut and then smoke like in your pics.

Don't do hotdogs anymore. Wife isn't a fan and I ever since buying the grinder I stuff sausages. Hot dog on open fire is good though.

Actually having been to Chicago once and eating one of these creations, I have to say y'all definitely got something going there.

I either grill them, or pan fry them. If they're pan fried they get hit with some beef tallow. If they're grilled they're just over the fire as they are.
We use either turkey dogs or Nathan's here. If the boys are after dogs they get turkey because that, according to them, is their favorite. I'm a Nathan's guy myself.

I normally either grill them or pan fry in bacon grease. I will be cooking 1,000 for an event on Mother's Day, so I will definitely be smoking those - a lot less labor intensive and farking delicious as well.

I don't like hot dawgs I Loves me some hot dawgs. YUM!!

Yeah, Hebrew Nationals are pretty good. They're just longer, so it screws with making the buns in the pans I prefer.

I grew up with them being boiled or grilled. We had them a LOT so I think fatigue just got to me. Never tried steaming them though. Think I'm gonna try that tomorrow. I'm making some hot dog buns at this moment actually.

I usually pan fry. I do grill and boil them. I have not smoked one but I am going to try it out. Never thought to.

I do them both ways. If the smoker is going and I'm getting hungry I'll throw a couple on, otherwise hot and fast.
Now, as far as a real Chicago dog I'm more with Jimmy's @ Grand and Pulaski or Gene & Judes in River Grove. Steamed dogs and buns, fresh cut fries in the bun with the dog and without all the other stuff. Mustard and onion.
Always my first stop when I leave the airport to see the family.

Boil, pan fry in butter, grill.

Tomorrow when I smoke some sweet Italian sausage links I'll drop some dogs on too. Hummel Bros. skinless!

I grill the regular Ballpark dogs until they plump up, split open and are charred.
