Elk shanks

I have some elk shanks and would like to know if anyone has any experience, or ideas for smoking them. Everything I find online calls for braising. Maybe smoke like a chuckie or brisket? Thanks, just want to fire up the uds tonight and saw these in the freezer.

When you say Elk Shanks I am thinking the meat below the knee? If so I cant imagine smoking that cut with out it being dry and tough. I would braise for chili or something.
