I went to Sam's today to pick up a flat and left empty handed! 4.66 a pound! Why so high I ask the girl in the meat dept. She said I don't know. Damn rib eye steak was only 3.94 a pound.

Like 1 month ago when I was at Sam's I saw full packers for $2.38 a pound. Maybe they have gone up as of late--haven't checked.

I just paid $2.44/lb yesterday for Choice and above briskets from Restaurant Depot.

If you wanna get ripped off, buy Sam's flats.
Usually, they carry whole packers, but you have to ask the meat cutters to get them because they don't usually put them out front in the case.

Flats are OUTRAGEOUSLY expensive!

Yea I think you'd be better off buying a packer. Probably would cost about the same and you get more.

Price around $3/lbs.

A local butcher sells smaller cab trimmed packers, usually under 7 lbs, for 3.99 lbs.. I get these most of the time because 12 pounds of meat can feed me and the old lady for a week.

$2.69/lb for Prime CAB at our local Costcos. $2.44/lb Choice from Smart and Final/Cash and Carry as they're called in other states. No brainer which one I get.

SB weekend, I bought a plain full packer at $1.79. A lot has happened since and this wasn't a Prime or a CAB...

I'm paying $9 a kilo here, but it is grass fed in the most pristine environment on the planet, an absolute star in quality and taste.
It's one of the very few aspects where I feel we are getting a good deal compared to you guys.

That the same price I paid Buccs for a Grass fed no hormone packer as well. Mine wasn't that good though.

A lot of the value of brisket, or any other large cut, depends on how much you trim it. I picked up a 15 lb. Excel prime packer at Sam's the other day for 2.88/lb. then trimmed about 6 lbs. of fat off of it. So, looking at it another way, I bought a 15 lb. packer for $43.20 and turned into a 9 lb. trimmed brisket that cost me $4.80/lb.

Trimmed flats around here are usually about $4.99/lb., which would be slightly more expensive, but then you're paying the "butcher" to do the trimming.

nearly impossible to find a packer up here in the northeast. I have to call around to various butchers and often no luck. when I do find them, untrimmed is over $4/lb

I've been pricing them here from sams, kroger, wm, and local butcher. All at $4+ per lb. WTF. I can get chicken legs, thighs, or whole, for .99 a lb. Even pork shoulder is $1.68 a lb. !

Don't get me wrong, I can live on it. Just... a man needs to burn some beef every once in a while...know wat I'm sayin.....

$2.68 for a packer, $4.69 for flats at the local Sam's

This is why I haven't done a brisket yet. Can't find a packer anywhere and the local groceries, IF they have flats, are like $6-$8 a pound. Too much money on the table if I screw it up.
