I'm almost finished with my first UDS, just need to add a couple finishing touches. This will be my first experience with a smoker, so site has been VERY helpful! Thanks for the information and motivation with all the great looking Q. Can't wait to give it a try this weekend!

That looks super clean!

Is that a U bolt holding down that pipe that connects to the ball valve for air intake?

Yes, it's a stainless u-bolt I got from Lowes in the hardware/fastener section. Helps keep things in place.

A lot of people like to cook a fatty as a maiden voyage but I got a pkg of cheap thick cut bacon and some apple wood and sprinkle a little rub on it. Spend a little time learning how she runs and enjoy the smells.

Sounds good. I planned on doing the fatty for the seasoning. I'll probably do a butt for my first official smoking, since they seem difficult to screw up (knock on wood).

I just did my first shoulder, You'll love the uds for this. It holds temps like a champ. I let it settle at just under 300 degrees and let it cruise for 7+ hours

Looks really nice. Is that a gasket on the lid or just a reflection? I almost forgot how a fresh new UDS looks. You will love it!

Looks good. How do you plan on closing those lid vents when you're done cookin? Plugs? Fridge magnets? I only ask as you should have some means of shutting her down when you're done. Not only for safety but it will save you a lotta coal over time!
