Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what meat grinder attachment to get for the Kitchen Aid? Or is it better to just buy a separate meat grinder?

It works fine. It's kinda slow, but I don't grind that often, so it suits my needs for sausage making. Don't bother with the stuffing attachment. Spend the extra money on a dedicated stuffer like an LEM or a grizzly.

Yeah there is an all metal one. I don't know if the price difference is worth it or not. Plus for the price I can just get a dedicated grinder

If you were going to get the metal one, I'd just buy a separate grinder. The plastic kitchen aid works fine for me because I don't use it enough to justify the purchase... Yet. I can't imagine the metal version would actually grind much better or faster. It may stay a little cleaner and or colder longer though.

My experience with my Kitchen Aid is the the meat has to be half way frozen otherwise it will just gum up. If the meat is of the half frozen state, it works pretty well for small batches.

I have a kitchenaid grinder attachment. used it once then bought a dedicated grinder. worked fine but takes a long time to grind meat for 10# batches.

It's absolutely better to buy a separate one. Like a LEM #5 or the equivalent Cabela.

For me, the kitchenaid meat grinder attachment has been nothing but a nightmare. Dull blade, small, wobbly, plastic and takes about 10 times longer to process the same amount of meat. Others seem to like it fine--just sharing my experience with it.. I have the LEM #5 now ($219 at Academy Sports).

A friend just purchased an all metal one for his Kitchen Aid mixer for $100 off CL. He has yet to try it.

I recently burned up my old faithful Kitchenaid grinding a brisket. Now I bought a cheap grinder from Harbor freight and I wish I'd done it before.
Anybody ever fixed a KA?

I have the kitchenaid metal unit. It works fine for small batches when you don't need to grind more than 5lbs of meat. I just got a Bosch unit for our kitchen here in France and it works great too. I will be buying another dedicated grinder for larger production of sausages. The nice thing about the multi-purpose machines is the ease of clean-up and there is little waste. My giant hand grinder wastes about 1/4 LB of meat left over in the auger. I just ground this chuck and short ribs for burgers in 5 minutes

As previously mentioned don't waste your money on the stuffer, it is cumbersome and too high off the counter top to make sausages solo.

I bought this one, and I really like it. Powerful, doesn't gum up if you keep the meat relatively cold. It also has great reviews on Amazon.

Btw, the LEM #5 #8 etc come with sausage stuffing attachments which work really well if you have another person to help. If only one person, then I guess a vertical sausage stuffer is needed.

I like my KA grinder, but, I will be getting a stand alone some day. I will still used my KA for some things. It works fine for me.

I have the KA plastic grinder. Part of the plastic on the body has split, but it still works. Occasionally I'll catch a four-pound chuck roast on sale, and I will grind it up for hamburger. The KA is slow, bogs down a bit, and I would never use it for more than grinding up a small chuck roast or a pork tenderloin.

When we get to Texas, the wife wants to get into sausage making. We are going to buy an LEM 12. I guess it depends on what your cash limit is -- the KA is only 50 bucks. But for a hundred bucks you could get the LEM Products 575 Watt #8 Electric Meat Grinder (http://www.amazon.com/LEM-Products-Watt-Electric-Grinder/dp/B004PHUMRU/ref=sr_1_1?s=outdoor-recreation&srs=3022186011&ie=UTF8&qid=1391368024&sr=1-1&keywords=lem). It will beat the socks off of the KA from what I hear.

I grind tomatoes through mine, I just throw herbs, garlic and tomatoes down the chute, grind it through, tadaaa, heat and serve sauce base

Kitchenaid does not have the grunt for a lot of grinding. Save a headache and buy a seperate grinder.

For small job my Kitchen Aid adapter works great on the stand mixer. For larger jobs a dedicated grinder....

It all depends on your usage. I have both, and use both. If I am grinding between 1-3 pounds, I use the kitchen aid. It is fast because it is all right there already on my counter top and is just one quick move to hook it up. If you are using really cordy, sinew filled meat, you should par freeze it to help it from gum up. Also, I never use the small dye first. I think that is a big problem most people have with it gumming up. The think I like about this is the speed of it all since everything is all right there in my kitchen at a reach and it cleans up fast. The big grinder is down in the basement and heavy as hell.

If you are going to grind any serious amount, say 5lbs or more, get a regular grinder. It goes so much faster that way and you keep your meat colder then to prevent fat smear for sausage making. You will burn up your Kitchen Aid by putting too much stress on it for long periods of time.
