View Full Version : Finally ordered a smoker

After months of research, exchanging emails and phone calls with every insulated vertical builder I finally bought the 48" Entertainer from Abe's Smokers. Kevin responded to every email, phone call and gave me a deal that I just could not turn down. Really nice guy. If his smokers are half as nice I am sure I will be very pleased. I went with the red cabinet and black doors, cart with off-road tires, Guru adapter and heat sink. Kevin also included an ash pan that will be standard on all new smokers he builds. Thanks to SmittyJonz, mikes1212, WineMaster and ShizuokaMark for their input. Now the 4 week wait begins.

Very nice. Kevin does a great job, especially for the price.
Did you go for the gravity feed water option?

Thanks! Are you talking about the drain in the water pan that is slanted to drain out of the back thru a valve? If so, yes. If not then fill me in. I can still call Kevin and add it.

No not the drain. He offers a water feed so you can add water from the top of the smoker. No need to open the doors or remove anything to add h2o...
Ask him about it.

I will ask him first thing Monday morning. Appreciate the information. That sounds like something I might really need.

Congrats on the new toy!

Make sure you post a review after you get it. I don't think I've seen anyone post about one of those yet. I'm curious to hear your impressions.

I will do that. Hopefully it will benefit someone. I'm most interested in the cart/off-road tires because this thing is going to be heavy.

I agree! The decision was killing me. I was convinced that the bomber was it for me. Then I spoke to Kevin at Abe's about 10 times today. Great guy, not pushy, honest about his product, didn't have anything bad to say about any other builders. I'm a real pain when it comes to buying anything and he never seemed to mind my endless questions. He's trying to get his products out there and was the only builder I spoke to that even considered negotiating. I got a lot of cooking space for a great price.

Funny you say that as I was in the same boat. I had my mind set on something else until I actually talked to Kevin. Like you said just a down to earth patient guy, never pushy and very honest about his product. The fact that he negotiated was huge and he made me a offer I couldn't refuse on a pair of average joe's
Mine are black with stainless doors. Love them and have no regrets!

Before you pull the trigger give Kevin a call. You can use a smaller tree and get more cooking space. Not that there is anything wrong with the smoker you are set on but never say never. PM me if you want the numbers. I don't know if they just really liked me or if they can do this for everybody??? I got a similar deal on my custom vertical last year. I helped the guy design it and in exchange for helping him perfect it he sold it to me for $389. He has since sold a dozen of them at $760. Sometimes these newer guys have more flexibility.

I also have been talking with Kevin about ordering a smoker and having it shipped to Alaska. He has answered every email and offered some great prices on his product. Very happy with the service he has provided. If the numbers work, I will purchase a smoker from him.

I am within a week of pulling the trigger on the exact same smoker. From what I've seen in pics and talking to Kevin, it seems like it would do an above average job.

He has newer pics on his Facebook page. I'm using those to get me thru until mine is delivered. he also has some quick videos of how air tight they are and how well they can stand up to him jumping on them or beating them with a rubber mallet. What options are you considering?

nice looking rig but those doors look like they are screwed on with piano hinges. Id ask if he could do a more permanent welded hinge. Im sure he can.

He doesn't do the piano hinges any more. He does a drop hinge. The doors are inset/flush and are removable.

Just getting a bare bones black with a guru adapter and maybe a few more shelves.
Its what INSIDE the smoker that matters:razz:

I was waiting for somebody to mention that.:biggrin1: if it helps I have one that was built in San Antonio and one that was built in Austin.
I told him about the old pics and he should be removing them soon.

Did you see that he has SS doors for half-price or 3 extra racks for this month's promo? Hopefully you took advantage of one of those offers.

Yup, the piano hinges made me stop in my tracks and not even read the thread a few times, figuring I'd never even consider a smoker outfitted like that.

Here are some newer pictures. I apologize for just grabbing the first one I could find and it being an older model. You are correct about the hinges. It doesn't do the new models justice.
