I'm starting this thread today, b/c posting will be the last thing on my mind when I pull out at 3AM in the morning. I'm gonna have a 14hour 700 mile ride ahead of me. Leaving at 3AM, hoping to be back around 5-6PM. We'll see how it goes. I'll be driving from Monroe, NC to Bens place in Nahunta.

I'll update the thread as the day goes on tomorrow.

Got the Duramax all cleaned up and full of diesel full. She's ready to go.

She will fit just fine in the back. Make that old 1-Ton ride nice. I'm picking up a 36 Deluxe. Load with a forklift at bens place and unload with my Bobcat when I get back home.

Be safe! I know you will enjoy your LANG 36 (because I certainly do enjoy my LANG 36!!!).

Just remember, it won't take a full size 18" log in the fire box. I got a JawSaw and it works GREAT for cutting down the larger logs to fit.

You said you're getting the 36 Deluxe model, what are the advantages of having the warmer attachment? I doubt the OP will be able to answer since he's on the road, but others can answer.

I tried to do some research on them, but no luck. Wasn't sure if they are worth the extra money.

I went with the 30" charcoal grill on the front instead of the warmer on the back. The warmer is so small I didn't think that I would get any real use out of it, but the grill on the front - I use a lot! On the larger LANGs the warmer is larger and can hold a pan or three. Just didn't seem worth the extra $$ IMHO.

12-20-2013, 03:29 PM
I didn't get the warmer box because I really coundn't see a use for it. Plus I like to preheat my splits on top of the fire box.

12-20-2013, 04:00 PM
My warmer doubles as a verticle smoker. There is vent from the firebox that allows smoke to enter the warmer and vent out the top. I just finished a small pork tenderloin in the warmer, Pics to follow later!

Well guys its 0500 and im back at work, had some down time and wanted to follow up on my trip to Nahunta. Let me first say that i had heard so many good things about Lang cookers, the quality, craftsmanship, the product they turn out..all of it was supposed to be superior.

I am now a firm beleiver in all of the above, i was expected see a huge shop, very commercialized and updated. A bunch of people walking around in khakis and carrying clipboards and talking on cell phone's.....how else would a world renoun pit builder operate?

Just about the opposite actually, its a moderate sized shop with dirty, hard working welders everywhere in blue jeans and boots...MY KIND OF PEOPLE. I spoke with Ben Lang himself and he truly is a stand up guy, its pretty safe to say that the hype of competition BBQ and TV has not ruined his view and approach to turning out a superior product and standing behind that product and that in itself means the world to me.

And to my surprise when we got there, Corree Schurman of Sugars BBQ(BBQ Pitmasters TV show) was at the shop with Brad Kay(Lang Smoker Cookers Youtube Videos/BBQ Superstars) cooking the guys at the shop lunch. We got to talk with both of them and got to see how Corree foils her ribs. Both seem like very genuine people.

730 miles and 11.5 hours of driving wore me out, but to go down there and meet Ben and the guys at the shop and see the shop and just soak the atmosphere of what i would call the apitomy of bbq cookers was priceless. If your thinking about purchasing a Lang...DO IT!

As to the comments about going bigger... i dont need to go bigger, i have a homemade hog cooker that we do the big party's on. it will 200lbs-300lbs at a time.

Now on to the pics!!!!

Loaded up.

Her and my fiancÚ talked for probably half an hour. She always enjoyed watching her and lynnea whoop up on the boys. I think Megan(my fiancÚ) enjoyed the trip to Lang more than I did. That's awesome! Sounds like you got yourself a keeper! I'd love to have that 60D you have pictured, but I have nowhere to put it. My 48 is more than enough for my needs, and I have a MES 40 if I have any extra cooking needs. I would like to thanks everybody for the interest showed and the kind words said. It's probably gonna be middle of next week before a fire gets built in my new 36(crazy schedule). However I will be cooking some Q!

Found out today my services are needed to cook for a close family friend. Should be between 100-200lbs of meat. Cooking directly over coals after the wood has been burnt down and the coals shoveled in. North Carolina style! I wish I could be cooking on the Lang but atliest I'll be doing up some Q!

Congrats on your Lang, you will soon experience the best bbq you've ever made. Having a Lang has been a game changer for me. I also met Ben and Paul Kirk at the fall cooking class. They both were great down to earth guys, I was impressed that Ben spent the whole day with us. For those asking about the side warmer box, I like using it for seafood, I smoked some snapper and gator in it which end turned out great while doing a butt in the smoker. Enjoy your smoker!

We'll I was able to get it fired up and steamed cleaned and seasoned. Started off with half a chimney of KBB and layed my splits right on top of the charcoal. It seemed to work real we'll. I was up to a steady 300* in 20 minutes or so. Got it steam cleaned and let it season for about 2 hours with hickory and cherry.

I can't even begin to tell you how impressed I am with this cooker, it's quick to get up to temp, it's easy to control an once you get it to the temp you want she's pretty steady. And that's coming from somebody that's never really cooked on a offset stick burner. I was also very impressed with the recovery times when opening and closing the cook chamber.

Nothing but smiles from over here in North Carolina!

So exciting. I'm enjoying these pics myself. It's like reliving my first night with my cooker :)

Wait ... that doesn't sound right

She sure is a beauty. I have been talking nothing but Lang to my wife for a couple months now. She insists I build another UDS but man I really like the Lang 36. I have swayed her to my method of thinking slightly so far.

I hope you enjoy many wonderful cooks on the sweet looking thing! Congrats on the purchase! :thumb:
