View Full Version : Its a ghetto Mexican birthday party....

Tonybel

Growing up we always had birthday parties in the backyards or we would clean the garage and set up shop there and use the whole drive way. That's exactly what I did yesterday. The reason I say it's ghetto is I have heard that only Mexicans do parties in the garage and people say it "ghetto" low class.

Here's my set up before our family and close friends arrived.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/767F4B90-A2D8-42BC-99CC-0881A6017C20.jpg

So I started on Saturday night with 2 pork butts. Seasoned with red eye rub
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/E64E89B5-0026-42D1-B92E-54AF4DFDE481.jpg

Set up the wsm with a mix of cherry and apple wood.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/190F32D7-FF89-4214-AAD7-DC65DC64AC98.jpg

Of they go on the wsm.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/6A647BB3-98AB-4C70-8253-51A6D2EA76E5.jpg

Waiting to come up to temp. 235-245 I would be happy.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/A429EDAD-1FC0-4287-BC12-EF0CC587D7E0.jpg

Here's a cool video I did waiting for the temp to go up
http://instagram.com/p/h7lzuIRZGg/

At 10 pm I went sleep and left the smoke alone. I woke up at 8 and it was holding steady.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/64F11670-40D2-4858-B1F0-1D5CF5F4C5D3.jpg

I wrapped in apple juice
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/AA3C5419-DED7-4E9A-93FC-DC0F74EF1EA1.jpg

Then when I taught they were ready and checked and sure enough they were done. I'm getting good at this thing.
http://i1264.photobucket.com/albums/jj495/tonybel1/bbq%20and%20grilling/410AE333-D4BE-4221-B159-011F10115FB1.jpg

And we continue.

I put them in these Warmers along with hot dogs and BBQ beans. We had nachos and potatoe salad also.

If my garage wasn't full of junk.........we'd have em out of the garage too. We throw the ghetto parties in the backyard. Funny, how most times the "kids" parties are more for the "adults!"
Plus, a party is not complete without the Brinca Brinca! :thumb:

Looking good, Guys. At the end of the day, that smile on your daughter's face is all that matters! :thumb:

We just had my daughter's party on Saturday. This time we took the easy route and did a Peter Piper Pizza party. No fuss, no clean up and it was all done in a couple hours. Game tokens galore and fun.

Nothing ghetto about that. We used to have our Thanksgiving dinner in the garage when we had 30 people attend. Also, most of our crawfish boils are setup for eating in the garage. Mexicans ain't got nuthin' on rednecks. :)

Your daughter is adorable. Are there any unattractive women in your family?

Looking forward to the Quinceanera party in the future.I did my daughters last year.My Wife said lets cater it and of coarse my response was... No way.I cooked everything from start to finish(Short of all the prep. work) in the monkey suite(we are short pant wearing people mostly in FL.) including tie.I worked both ovens and grill (salmon, chicken, veggies. ect) to insure quality of food.It was not not to impress the yoots cause they would have been happy with chicken nuggets. It was more so for the adults and I could not deal with the embarrassment that would soon follow had I not cooked for the 80 or so that showed up.

Another great job, Tonybel. You guys make a good hospitality team.

I fall into the category, with others here, that I can not even walk through my garage, only through a few small trails. It's been that way since I moved in. Too embarrassing to let others see it.

So your clean garage does not begin to seem "ghetto" to me.

Not all young Latins are crazy but time will tell with my Daughter. She is half Gingo(me) and her Mother Latina(Venezuelan) She is half in collage and high school at 16.She has now showned interest in cooking and specifically knife skills(I still have all fingers with just one scare). To me as a Parent that came from a broken household and given up on a young age with no life skills this is a plus.Cooking is a shared love not only for the rewards of nutrition but to pass on the knowledge of life's lessons learned. Many blessings MI AMIGO.
