How did it turn out? I have had a rub with coffee in it on a steak and it was excellent. if you have used one, care to share the recipe?

I just add some very finely ground coffee to my existing rub, whatever it happens to be that day :-D

Yes, my favorite! I use Raichlen's recipe http://www.primalgrill.org/recipe_details.asp?RecipeID=130&EpisodeID=19

I have a buddy who grinds up coffee beans and puts it on his steak. He loves it

What kind of flavor/taste does it bring to the meat? I've been wanting to try it but have been very hesitant.

I sometimes use coffee, not as a rub, but as part of an injection mixture.

I have used coffee on brisket, also have used coffee to season a steak. Kind of different in taste, the faster cooking of a steak seems to leave more of a coffee taste, but, gets a burnt edge to the flavor. The brisket rub gets mellow, there is almost no coffee taste, but, a distinct earthiness that makes it more complex.

Coffee Rub:
1 cup finely ground coffee, Costa Rican
1/4 cup sweet paprika
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 tablespoon chile powder
2 tablespoon dry mustard
2 tablespoons granulated garlic

There is no salt, because I was going to use a two-layer rub process with the salt and black pepper added after the initial rub melts a bit. Note that I now also add 1/2 teaspoon of fine sugar to this, and all of my base rubs. This is meant as a chemical additive and not a sweetener, to aid in pellicle development and rub adhesion.

Landarc described it very well below...

My pork butt rub recipe has coffee in it, and like Landarc said, it gives a really deep, earthy flavor to the meat. I think it's pretty awesome, but I won't share the recipe.

I use instant coffee in my water pan with some soy sauce. It adds a coffee taste or aroma to the brisket but only when done hot and fast!!!

Coffee and beef is very good. Capital Grille has a nice kona crusted steak and liked the idea so much I used coffee to make a coffee crusted burger at the cafe I had a few years ago.

We used to make a coffee chili too. As everyone stated it gives a great earthy complexity that is outstanding.
