I live in the land of Head Country and my local markets do not offer much of a variety of bbq sauces. Was wondering if anyone could recommend a commercial vinegar bbq sauce. I have never tried Carolina style bbq and I am curious to the flavors. I would like a recommendation of one that best represents this region and I like a some heat if that helps with the recommendation.

Wicker's is great for storebought. They're calling it a marinade, but to me, it's a sauce. Ingredients are simple: Vinegar, salt, spices.
It's made in Missouri so it may be in the stores where you live. If not, here's their website store:

I've never really tried a store-bought that was representative of a true Carolina vinegar sauce, but then, I've never bought much store-bought vinegar sauce; because only takes about five minutes to make a batch of your own.

Thar ain't no vinegar sauce around here. Only that red or yellow stuff. Gotta go over the hill to NC to get the good stuff. Make it, it' only cider vinegar, a little water, brown sugar, crushed red pepper, garlic, and cayenne to taste. Be sure to use a fruit jar.

I like Scott's and George's for store bought. But it's pretty simple to make.

Scott's is good, as far as store bought, but do yourself a favor and make up some yourself. Follow chicagokp's link and look at post #14. That's the taste of eastern nc. You'll be glad you made it.

Being from Eastern NC, I make my own sauce, but I would not hesitate to use Scott's BBQ sauce in a pinch. I don't have stock in the company, but I have turned many of friends on to it with great reviews. http://www.scottsbarbecuesauce.com/

Give it a try, it has the heat you are looking for.

For something different, try this: http://www.cfsauer.com/products.asp?id=20

This is the local BBQ sauce I grew up on. It's a vinegar hybrid.
