This is my first real post and I just picked up the $75 char broil smoker from Wmart. I plan on adding a gasket and a wok for the fire box. Any other mods I might need? I was planning on sticking with the stock gauge for now considering I am going to pick up a wireless maverick. As the title suggests I am trying to get by cheap for right now. But if smoking is anything like home brewing I will be bankrupt quite soon.

Just so you are aware, you picked up the "Mr. Beer" of smoking. Do google search at the bottom of the page and you will find many threads on this subject.

Glad you took the first step to test the waters.

Nice starter smoker, but you'll get hooked first time out.

The absolute best BBQ I have ever tasted was cooked by an older African American man just off the campus of Louisiana College in Pineville La. His cooker was a metal double circle coop can with a grate wired on with bailing wire. Best chicken quarters, boudain, andouille I have eaten. 75$ for a cooker is a great way to enter the addiction. You'll upgrade when the time is right. Maybe even to a co op can.
