has any one used a top from a broiler pan for a tuning plate ? I just bought a Char-Broil offset smoker and am trying to get it set up for my first cook , i already have one , and there pretty cheap

I did it on my Cousins pit and it works well. Use the whole thing, put the bottom 1/2 next to the firebox and the top next to it toward the stack.

You could add some water in the pan as a heat barrier and to add moisture to your cooker.

what about sand and water to the pan ?Stop over thinking and take baby steps, Less is more sometimes the kitchen sink isn't needed a teaspoon will do.
