ok, I FINALLY found something awesome on CL.. I'm browsing around and see this Weber Performer Platinum grill for $50 ... I nearly keel over, I drive out immediately to go check it out and it's in Tip top shape (except for that small ding in the porcelain on the top right of the kettle lid). the guy's just moving out of state and can't ship it with his other belongings. sooooooo, a $300+ grill for $50 + charcoal baskets, a couple extra propane tanks for the gas assist light, some utensils and a cover.... I think score

Great cooker and awesome deal!

I'd put something on the chip to prevent more deterioration. I'm not a big fan of paint because it never seems to stop the rust (at least for me.) On my most recent cleanup (yesterday) I put Pam spray on the chips and around handles and anywhere there was rust. My hope is that it will harden from the heat like when you season cast iron and protect the metal. But I have no mileage on this so it's something new I'm trying at the moment.

yeah, I was gonna take care of that chip soon too. wasn't sure how to do it. was just gonna get some high heat grill paint at HD or Lowes and spot paint it, but if that really doesn't work I'll defer to your guys expertise

lol, I feel special now. finally great to have a weber kettle with a thermometer built into it. no more using that jury rigged turkey therm through the vent holes lol

I would go to trophy shop and get a small brass badge and put "stolen 05-18-2013"

Put the tastefully completed badge over the chip with JB Weld. Its yours. Pimp that cooker out.

great score for sure. i'm proud to show the war wounds. i just lightly scrub off some of the rust and then apply pam.

For the price you paid - you could buy a brand new lid from Weber and STILL have a steal!

thanks guys. I'm excited to give it it's maiden voyage... I already have a 22.5 OTS but all the extra features of the performer was just calling my name :D. gonna grab some of the rustoleum high heat enamel paint to fix that little chip on the outside and it will be as good as new. I think I need to christen it with a few racks of spares :D

I would clean her up and not worry about paint the chip. Unless you a very meticulous painter, it will look worse than with the chip. About 5 of my 10 kettles have chips ( battle scars). I would work on cleaning the table.

Either way, that's a great deal. You will love the Performer. It is my goto grill for most cooking.

Say one on my local CL for $45, I'd be snagging it if I was headed that way. Seems like a lot of Weber stuff has started showing up this week.

Ooo, big time score right there. Be careful, not that you've scored one, it gets kind of addicting. :thumb:

tell me about it. I started out with a weber smokey joe last year since it's just the wife and me... now I have SJS, the 22.5 OTS and now the performer... my wife just rolled her eyes at me when I brought it home yesterday and said "now we have THREE grills?"

Brother you gots to show the bride that your patio is either sinking or severely listing to port.
You need to add a Pit Barrel Cooker and an Akorn to balance it out. Its a property valuation thing.

Awesome snag. Bet it didn't take you long to get it loaded and on the road on that deal.

:pound: yes, I'll see how long it takes before I can convince her (aka bring another one home without telling her) to do that.

looked at the code on it and it's only a 2010 model... so no wonder it looked in such nice shape (AD code on the vent).

right now I'm grilling some salmon with veggies on the side to break her in. the gas assist is pretty decent, though I think a good chimney works better
