Well, it looks like terracotta, and the detailing would make me think Mexican in origin (The supports look like serpents as well as the tequilla barrell...). Any markings on the bottom?

Yaknow, it looks to be hand made. Pottery and grates both. Nothing is even, but it all looks well crafted.
I'm thinkin it might be toxic and ya better ship it to Florida so I can dispose of it fer ya!:decision:

I would call the history detectives on pbs.
You might have a national treasure.

That's really cool looking. Might be worth asking a local antique dealer to look at it. Something so unique and hand made could be worth a pretty penny.

Amazing find! I'm with the talk to an antique dealer crowd. Are you planning to use it or is it going to be ornamental?

This is as close as I could find. The stand is dead on. Third from left on the bottom row of pics. decided to fire it up, figured the most appropriate first cook would be fajitas over some mesquite wood, came out great I think I could taste the history

Looking at that, I would say its an Australian Aboriginal artefact, stolen during the second world war.
Ship it over to me and I will keep quiet and also pass it on.:heh:
