Weber Rehab

I've never rehabbed a Weber.
My Father gave me his old one.

Obviously new handles and a good scrubbing.

Also, I was planning on rubbing it down with oxidation polish that you use on cars.

Here are some photos.
Any other suggestions?

That's a 1988. I use 0000 steel wool and Dawn dishwashing liquid. It will shine up that enamel like new. Good luck. :cool:

I'm a fan of the 0000 steel wool as well for the outside and the vents also. With a little elbow grease they clean up great.

Dont repaint, i would leave it. The ceramic coating still looks like it has at least a decade till its un usable. PLus it looks cool, imo.

Don't paint it.

If you must do something, give it a light coating of flax seed oil all over the next time you cook.

I'm in the don't paint camp.. it looks like it will be a looker when finished..

i get rather anal when i do mine. i litterally disassemble them. i take either sand paper or steel wool to the triangle rack. steel wool to about everything else. i would take off the top vent and reinstall with ss hardware. not sure of the onetouch system but they are not that expensive. new food rack, make sure you get the flip up type. the legs i polish up with 0000 steel wool. the body with steel wool also. if its grey , its grey. i would just get a rubber leg tips for the end of the front leg. either buy new grey plastic handles or make yer own to keep prices low.

I didn't paint it.

I did, however, paint the legs, ash tray, and bottom rack.
Also, where the legs attach were very rusted them.
You can see them underneath so I used a wire brush on them, taped it off and painted them to seal the rust.

I should have it done this weekend.
I'll post pics.

Do NOT paint it. The paint will not last more than a few months over the porcelain enamel.

You may never get the true black finish completely back. But you will still have a great grill that will last you many, many years.

I use a car polisher and Meguair's polish on my kettles, and it works very well. But, I have a black Smokey Joe Platinum that refuses to return completely to black. I live with it. It is what it is, a fantastic kind-of grey cooker.

Treat it like a fine piece of old leather or copper. Celebrate the "patina."

Think you need to rotate it on the legs, looks like the handle isn't in the right place for picking it up and rolling it but I may be totally wrong. Looks great though!
