What say you all? Would you do two WSMs if u could get a second for around 100-150 (I already have one) or build a UDS?

Personally I'd go two WSMs because they are a bit more flexible. You can cook UDS style in a WSM if you want. Of course, you can add a second level in a drum and cook WSM style there too.

I had two WSMs first then built the UDS.

Editted to add:
Although I should note. My drum is also basically an 18.5 wsm (smaller can size) and I had that can and knew I'd be making a UDS out of it. If you are talking an 18.5 wsm and a 55 gal UDS I'd go UDS for the space, but put the two layers in for racks so you essentially have an 18.5 wsm/uds and a 22.5 uds/wsm.

I'd get the WSM.

If you are competing, i would think another WSM would be helpful, or a UDS would work also. If you can score a WSM for that price (depends on size) go for it.

I would get a UDS rather than have another 18" WSM. Just not having to roll or cut ribs in the larger UDS would be worth it. Same thing goes for larger cuts of meat.

Thanks all. I love my 18.5 WSM but can use the extra space for rib cooks or cooking for the masses. Figured if I could get the WSM for 100ish it would do it and build a cart for the "twins" :)

WSM, Akorn and Pit Barrel Cooker (pbc is on sale again with free shipping). With these three bad boys you can be totally in control of your scene for under 1000$. You can smoke, grill, bake, steam and just in general be a patio hero. Lots of ways to increase costs in cooking equipment. But Why?

If I had the option of 2 18" cookers or an 18" and a 22", I'd go for one of each size. I don't pan on competing though. Having two identical WSMs would probably be better for that sort of use.

IMO, a UDS is just a WSM that you can't take apart for easy transport. They work very much the same way (if you ditch the water in the WSM).

I have an 18"WSM & a UDS. For the long tough cooks I use the UDS. Faster cooks like ribs I will use the WSM. Unless I have a lot to cook.

I'd go UDS, but for the price that you can get the wsm at its a tough call. You will easily spend $150 on quality parts to build a quality UDS especially if you don't have a bunch of the parts and tools already laying around.
