When I started our 2013 plans the Fryeburg (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fryeburg-Maine/103753486330739), ME (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Maine/108603925831326) comp was listed on the KCBS site in 8/13 - but then I saw on their facebook page this

"Unfortunately the Festival will no longer be held.
We appreciate the response and support, and will forever treasure the friiends we made.
Be sure to visit http://www.kcbs.us/ and http://www.nebs.org/ to find a wondeful and tasty event near you!
Go BBQ!"

Any one know what happend I had only heard good things about this comp?

Looks like I need to find another event to add to our calendar to replace this.

No idea. We had a great time at that contest and will miss it. Doesn't look like Mainely Chillin' and Grillin' is going either.

Both of the contests boards, Western Maine and Grillin' and Chillin', felt that the contests just weren't bringing in enough people from a paying patron stand point to make the contests cost effective.

CarolinaQue (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/member.php?u=5008) thanks for the reply - Sorry to hear this event was cancelled from other teams I had only heard great feedback and was looking forward to the event.

Looks like now I have to choose between the RI, Wakefield Rotary Campus CookOff or the VT, The Harpoon Championships of New England BBQ. Any one of any feedback on either event?

The application process for Harpoon is already over, you could email them to see if it is already sold out, but chances are it is. The Rhode Island comp was great! Real good judges too!

You also have the OOB contest in Maine still. It's the only one in the state, so it's an auto also.

I think many contest are coming to this conclusion. I think a challenge for the future is to come up with ways for the public to be involved in the contest atmosphere. As it is now (around here anyway) the contest adds little to the event from a public participation/draw perspective. Keith

My fault.... I said (before awards), that Fryeburg was THE contest that I wanted to return to this year. I probably cursed it.
