I stopped by the grocery store today to just pick up a couple things my wife wanted for some baking she is doing... Flour, eggs, butter, etc. Try as I might, I couldn't help but wander by the meat department. It's like a train wreck... I can't help but look. :tsk: To make a long story short, these somehow jumped into my basket.

They were on sale for $3.07 per pound so I figured I was saving money.

Isn't the first step in solving a problem admitting you have one?

I see nothing wrong, baking and beef go hand in hand.

I will since I'm the only beef eater in the house... You got any plans of heading this way anytime soon?

Apparently he needs help cooking them first.

That part I know how to do... I just don't know how to exercise self control when it comes to buying more.

No self control needed. Cook, eat, buy, repeat.

LOL

you aint the only one who needs help.

I am still figuring out my new OK Joe. Decided to do a quick test burn today after I got home from work loading the firebox a different way. No intent on cooking anything.

So here I am, temps in the 20's, 20 mph winds, and I am looking at a 250f cooking chamber.

Might as well throw on a few wings on the hot side, dont want to waste a perfectly good fire!!

I never buy meat in Wally World, but I still have to look in the meat dept. every time I'm in the store.

Huh? It isn't a problem. Just be careful when you tell the fellas you was checking out the meat at the store. They might take it the wrong way.

What cut is that exactly?

Nope... They will end up vacu-sucked in the freezer along with all the other ones I can't pass up buying. Hence the problem.

I never walk through the store without hittin the meat department.

That being said, there is a hamburger joint in hermosa beach that has had huge reviews and many articles written up about there burgers already. Omomie.

That being said, you have 40% of what you need already to make one hell of a great burger. Buy some flap meat and grind 2 thick slices of thick bacon per pound of meat. Mix the short ribs, flap meat at 50/50 then add some ground bacon. Make your burgers individually.

How do I know this, I asked the cook behind the counter and WTF, he told me. I've tried it and they were awesome!! Add your own spices etc.

Either way, great looking short ribs!!!

Yeah. And the next step is that you have to want to deal with your problem and, frankly, I see very little sincerity in any claim that you want to get better.

Until you really truly want to cure this, I have but one question...

How did you plan to cook those? :hungry:

If I saw those beauties in the store for that price, I would of bought them too. Really nice looking hunks of meat there.

For the people who don't trust walmart meat, their packer briskets (at least down here) are the same thing you would see at a high end grocery store. Typically excel brand packers. I've even grabbed cab choice packers from there on occasion.

Yeah, something I used to have the same problem. It's taken a LOT of training, but I think I'm on the road to recovery. My wife does throw me a little treat now and then. Of course every once in a while....

Yokes up on North Market... Not sure if it's the same at the other locations on town, but I find they have the best meat in town. Could have something to do with some demented farker that buys all the good stuff they put out...

Thanks for the idea SF... I might just have to give that a try. My wife will eat burgers so it would be a good use of available resources. :thumb:

Aside from SF's idea, I'll probably throw a party and smoke em up. Trim a little bit of the fat, rub em up with a simple blend of spices and parsley, and then hit em with smoke at around 250 for "x" hours till they get to about 160ish. After that, I'll wrap em in some form of "crutch" and let em go till they are probe tender. Served with a nice side of salmon and my reputation will remain the same.

Oh, it is so hard to pass on a deal. My grocery has beef back ribs (individual ribs) for sale at $2.99/lb every now and then. I buy them and freeze. My friggin' freezer is ful of ribs and corned beef. My wife thinks I am loony.....

Sounds a lot like the situation here Marty... My wife just rolls her eyes at me anymore. I picked up a 17# full packer corned beef last week when it was on sale. :loco:

Defrost the packer and cook it this weekend. In the meantime, get 17 LBs of the short ribs to fill the vacuum, which nature abhors of course. And that's how you explain it. You were just helping nature...

We got our tax return and my wife asked me what I wanted to do to get away for a weekend, after some negotiations I got her convinced we should goto sams club 3 hours away and stock up on meat.800$ later I came out with cases of ribs, butts, briskets, loins, sirloin tip, etc...All she got out of it was a night at the casino that cost me about 100$.

I still dont view it a problem but if you find a cure for it dont post it anywhere she might run acrossed it, could be hazardous to my health:blah:

I see one potential problem here.... Did you remember to pick up your wife's baking supplies? If so, you are perfectly healthy.

I too must go to the meat counter. Every time I go into a business that sells meat. Even if I visit more than one each day. Really it is not a problem.

Sounds perfectly normal to me. You do realize that freezers operate most energy-efficiently when they're full? Don't you see, you're saving money on the electric bill and protecting the environment. ::biggrin1:

In fact, keeping your freezer full helps it run more efficiently so you're reducing your electric bill and protecting the environment.

EDIT: Which is exactly what GnawsOnPigs said, which means I should read page 2 before replying...

I have cooked a lot of packers from Wally World, and can't think of a one that was not good, if I did my part right. After all, isn't that what B B Q is all about, taking a less than perfect piece of meat and turning it into a fantastic meal?

I have the same sickness, Mongo. Except when I get the stuff home, it occurs to me, "hey wait a minute.... I'm in NY today, and I don't even have a smoker here!" Running back and forth every 5 days is starting to cramp my smokin' style big time.
