Local store has a "frying chicken" on sale. Is that the same as a roasting chicken or is it smaller...bigger?
Also what is this PBC thing that has popped up lately...?

I copied this because I can't type it all on my phone.
Chickens are classified by age, here's the basic guidelines:
Broiler-fryer - a young, tender chicken about 7 weeks old which weighs 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 pounds when eviscerated. Cook by any method.
Rock Cornish Game Hen- a small broiler-fryer weighing between 1 and 2 pounds. Usually stuffed and roasted whole.
Roaster - an older chicken about 3 to 5 months old which weighs 5 to 7 pounds. It yields more meat per pound than a broiler-fryer. Usually roasted whole.
Capon - Male chickens about 16 weeks to 8 months old which are surgically unsexed. They weigh about 4 to 7 pounds and have generous quantities of tender, light meat. Usually roasted.
Stewing/Baking Hen - a mature laying hen 10 months to 1 1/2 years old. Since the meat is less tender than young chickens, it's best used in moist cooking such as stewing.

It is a small, young chicken that is tender when fried. A roaster is older and tougher.

A fryer is a small to medium sized chicken, ideal for frying. A roasting chicken is meium to medium large and it ideal for roasting and a stewing chicken is a large chicken, best cooked in a braise. It all related to age and size.
A younger, more tender, bird is typically desired for frying.

I prefer roasters for roasting chickens, better flavor and more meat. Overall better size for even cooking.

Don't let them fool you.
A "frying chicken" is actually intended for roasting, and a "roasting chicken" is actually intended for frying. The guys on this board will sometimes try to mess with your mind.
That PBC thing; well, it's just a conspiracy.
