Having one of those "good to have" dilemmas so tossing it to the Brethren jury. :decision: I've decided to indulge my jonze for some Craycort CI grates after the holidays, but having trouble deciding if I want to upgrade the 22.5" or the 26.75". The cost between the two size grates isn't enough of a concern to sway the decision just based on price tags.

I think my hangup is that I tend to use the 22.5 for more day-to-day grilling but the big 26.75 is more fun overall to use. And it'd be pretty cool to see that great big cast iron grate on the big guy.

Any thoughts I might consider either way? Or any general impressions from folks with Craycorts on the 26.75? Most of the time you tend to see them on the 22.5s.

Get them for the grill you use the most. You're going to love them.

i would get it for the one you use the most. if you use the 26 for smoking, etc then you don't need ci for that.

Although, if you got it for the 26, bet you'd use it more often. Just playing the devil's advocate, here.

See, that's where I'm at. I do wind up using the 26 more often since I got it. Parly because its easier to achieve and hold low temps for kettle smoking than on the 22, but still does a great job with high temp grilling. Maybe it's time to pare back to the 26, a UDS, and then work on getting a kamado... :clap2:

Haha... It's crossed my mind... I admit. Wouldn't want to dive in that deep before I figure out if CI is really my preference or just something that looks super cool in pix and vids... :biggrin1:

I have them for the 22.5 and love them. I would definitely get them for the weber that you use most.

I'd get it for the 22, and that way if you ever wanted to use the CI on the 26 you could always just put the CI grate over the regular grate.

I do appreciate the input, guys. I'm really tempted to slap those suckers in the 26 just because it'd be freakin' cool  but I still "grill" (vs. smoke) more often in the 22 and could also think of it as testing out the less expensive grate size, and if I like it, someday pull the trigger and also upgrade the big guy. In a practical sense, I could also use the old 22 plated grate as a diffuser rack for my in-progress UDS build.

I've got both the 22 and the 26. Go for the 26 since you get a larger area of straight grill marks without the crosshatch where the grill support is. Did that make sense??
By the way, my 22" Performer sits next to the 26 and I use the Perfomer as a prep table. Poor guy....

I get you but not helping me make a decision! LOL :mmph:

Marty, since you have both, do you find the 26 uses significantly more fuel than the 22 for straight up grilling? It's got a decent amount more interior volume to heat up which is why I appreciate it for smoking, but hesitate to make it my go-to grill for smaller cooks like just a couple of steaks or a few burgers or etc.

I had these for the 26. I used my 26 for everything once I got it. Just use fits bricks to hold the coals under one section (or how ever much space you need for cook) to conserve charcoal. I usually used about 1 section for grilling for my little family. It made reseasoning much easier as well to limit the direct heat to only the space I need to get the job done. I would definitely get for 26 instead of 22 because you only have to remove 1 section to have a place for the chimney starter with the 26. With the 22, you have to remove the entire Craycort to have a place to put the lit chimney.
