We were planning a fall get together for last weekend and I had big plans for the smokers. We usually do a Halloween party but my wife was due with our first child on November 2nd so we bumped the party up a couple weeks...plenty of time right?

I bought a pork shoulder, made up a batch of jerk chicken 8 pounds of thighs and wings) and planned on tring out that pepper stout beef recipe that is floating around here soi grabbed a nice 3 1/2 pound chuckie.

Right before I went to bed I seasoned up the pork shoulder with some Outlaw rub, wrapped it and set my alarm for 4 AM. My wife woke me up at 3 AM and said it was time to go to the hospital...

2 hours later this little man showed up...

Needless to say the party was put on hold. I made a trip home and froze up the beef, chicken and pork shoulder. I'm not too worked about the jerk chicken and the beef I hadn't touched so it will be fine but what about my pork shoulder? Think it'll be alright? I'm off all week and maybe some of next week so I'll probably fire the smoker here soon.

Congrats man! Handsome boy you got there. I'm not sure what to say about the pork. You can always throw it in the crockpot. :)

Congratulations brotha, you got a little smokin buddy later on! If the pork was previously frozen then toss it bud, you don't want to thaw an freeze and thaw. I met a guy at a comp that did that and his brisket was green it made me sick to my stomach looking at it, I had to tell him he couldn't turn that in that thawin and freezing an thawing will kill you just look at your brisket its green! He didn't turn in brisket, true story.

BEAUTIFUL boy you got there! CONGRATS!!!!

As for the butt, I'd thaw it and cook it when you can. I'm not sure how freezing, thawing, freezing and thawing again can spoil the meat (if properly thawed), but I have no personal experience with that.

I have frozen and thawed butts before with ZERO issues.

Goncrats again to your family!

What's his name anyway?

Thanks everyone! This one was a fresh shoulder so it hadn't been frozen prior. I was just wondering if the rub would impact any being on so long. I'm not too worried about it either way though!

His name is Evan and he will for sure be my future smokin' partner. :biggrin1:

Here are a couple more shots, love this little guy!
