Our local Aldi's has Hormel Bone-in Pork Butt Roast on sale for $1.59 per lb. and I was wondering if anyone had any opinon on the Hormel product...good, bad, or indifferent? I'm looking to do several Butt's for pulled pork this weekend for a family reunion and just wasn't so sure about it. Thanks for the advice as usual Brethren!

I try to avoid Hormel as the only Hormel products we get here are highly enhanced.

Look at the packaging. The Hormel pork around here is all enhanced (injected with a "solution") to help keep the end product moister when people who don't know how to cook pork try to cook it.

Personally I won't buy enhanced pork. I don't like the end product for long cooks. It ends up tasting hammy.

:hand: I avoid any meat at Aldi's like the plague! :icon_sick
It's definitely discounted and cheaper for a reason

Really? I love aldi's, its probably the best quality and by far the cheapest produce in town. Its odd so many people seem to dislike aldi's after the trader joe's lovefest we just had here too. Both are owned by the albrecht trust and I'd be quite surprised if many of their mystery maker products don't share the same source for both stores.

Now that said, aldi's meat department is quite like shopping at walmarts, its usually enhanced and packed for long shelf life. I'll take a fresh cut piece of meat any day but some people don't mind.

Read the label....

Most Hormel Meat Products are enhanced.

If it is the "Natural" label then the meat is not enhanced.

Read the label carefully. Many products down here have an "all natural" label. Upon further inspection, in fine writing you'll find "in a 7% marinade solution".
