Portable Thermoelectric Cooler/Warmers typically heats the interior up to 100° F above ambient or or cools it down to 42° F below the ambient.

I was wondering if any bretheren have used these for holding Q for longer periods compared to that acheivable from wrapping and holding in ice chests.

Mark are you referring those little grey and white electric coolers/warmers sold at truck stops?
If so I was wondering the same thing myself.

Exactly.

Igloo, Kooltron, etc.

I have had a Koolatron for years.
Used to use it when we traveled a lot in a van.

It cools well as long as ambient temps are reasonable.

As to heating--you have no temp control and they seem to get hotter than Hades.
If I remember right, even the instructions recommended not leaving it on "heat" for long periods.

I would never consider holding meat in one.
No benefit over cooler or Cambro IMHO.

I guess you need to monitor the holding temp to insure that stuff doesn't continue to cook then.

It's interesting that "Peltier Effect" heater/coolers are much more effiecient in the heating mode.
