View Full Version : already got a large BGE, is a WSM a good addition?
I'm not sure if it would be redundant at this point?
Thoughts?

Why not just build a UDS>?:decision:

Not redundant... consider how are you going to traansport the BGE?
There's always a time or place for a plan B.
There's nothing wrong with supplementing your BBQ gear... especially with a WSM.

If you need the smoking space, yes. If you dont really need it but can afford another cooker, yes.

Very well said...
I have 3 BGE's, Backwoods Compeditor, 22.5 WSM and a gasser. And use them all quit often.

It is a little redundant, but gives you more capacity and flexibility. You can have the WSM going and still be able to grill or bake in the Egg.

That wasn't the question.

My opinion: You can never have too many guns, too much ammunition, or too many smokers.
You're replies are all thoroughly enabling. I shall purchase the smoker in question.

You will find, as your smoking gets better, the WSM is a different flavor as the BGE or even a UDS. Capacity is another reason for getting the WSM.

I picked up a bge a few weeks back. Not selling my WSM. Go for it!

I cant say its a bad idea at all I go the other way though and use the bge more for low and slow smokes and a weber or gasser for searing.

If I had a large BGE, I'd build a UDS just for the capacity and price point. I don't even have a UDS so I'm not biased yet, but hopefully I will be soon. Just don't mention it to the wife until I wheel it into the yard. It's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.

I built and have owned a UDS for years. I recently purchased a WSM 22.5 and haven't used my UDS as much anymore. Different animals and love them both. I would purchase a WSM.
Yep - great addition. Like others have said, gives you more capacity and more flexibility. GO FOR IT!!!

I use the BGE for grilling. I use the WSM for everything below 350 degrees.
You'll definitely like having both. You'll be able to smoke all day/night on the WSM and then do a little high-heat finishing on the BGE.
