I bought some ahaheim & japs the other day. Also got some yellow peppers that look like japs. Are they? I already cored them. Seem to have thinner sidewalls than japs.

They're about to go on the smoker. Has some heat, but din't seem like much. My wife would taste one for me, she's affraid. I'm hoping a little sweeter when stuffed & smoked.

Pack them and send them to me. I will run several tests and let you know if they are japs or not.

Look like serranos.

They look a little too conical to be serranos. I've never seen that yellow type before.

They have the color of a Hungaian pepper. But a shorter length.
Your "mystery peppers" may be a product of cross breeding. That's why I try to seperate my "sweet" peppers from my "hot" peppers as much as possible.

Ate one yellow ABT. First bite at cut end was mild. 2nd bite a little warm. Last bite at point end a little spicier than the japs.
Couple things. The Aggies(aTm) invented a yellow Jalapeno, but I doubt that is what you got.
What you probably got are extremely common here in SoAz, especially served grilled along side a Sonoran Hot Dog. I have heard them called Santa Fe, and I think they have a slightly thinner skin wall, and are about as hot as a jalapeno.
Of course, the most important question: are they good?

G$ was on the money. Went back to the store, now have a tag for them. The label calls them CARIBE. And they're $4/lb. I got mine for $.99/lb. Here's what I found:
Guero = chile guero = yellow hot chile = caribe = Sante Fe grande = caloro = goldspike Substitutes: Hungarian wax chile peppers OR Fresno pepper OR jalapeno pepper OR serrano pepper.
