Hi! First post (yes I know this should be in the cattle call bit...). Anyways, I have had an affection with wanting an outdoor grill pit. I've attached a picture of my latest creation. My goal is to find the size/layout I want using random stuff from my junk heap. And I think with this latest redesign I'm just about there. What i need now is suggestions on building a permanent one.

Should the area where the charcoal/wood be flat and made with firebrick? But then how should I design the grill surface to move up/down to change temp? My current idea is to use angle iron and create 3 slots that I could put the grill surface at. Or use cable and pullys? Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks in advance!

Cables and pullies seem easier (and safer) then trying to move a hot rack mid cook. Kind of Santa Maria style...

Good luck with your build!
