View Full Version : Double barrel smoker for whole hog????

If I made a double barrel smoker (that design where you ahve two 55 gallon drums length ways on top of each other, bottom one the fire box), would that top drum be large enough to smoke a whole hog in?

I guess the first question is how large a hog. I'm thinking 40-50 people so????????

your probably going to use a 100lb hog (before kill) after cleaning and cooking and bones you end up with about 35-45lbs meat i think, i am not the best person to answer this due to lack of experience in cooking whole hog, but i am interested in responses since im planning on doing one for the 4th of july. that all being said i dont think a 100lb hog will fitl, i would definitely assume you would need a min of 36" x 48" cooking surface. but i would look for other answers to confirm this
