Found this yesterday. He had it posted as a 22 and all I was looking for was a lid for another UDS. It's a 26" in poor shape but for $20.00 I bought a rehab project. Poor thing has been abused. Needs: 3 Handles, Rust sanding (Not alot), New Ash Cleaner and alot of TLC. Probably will be asking for some advice when get this thing going.

Sad to see it beat up so bad, but at that price I'd have grabbed it as well.

And FWIW, take good care of the grates as they may no longer be available from Weber. They could not provide me with a charcoal grate that fit. I've also heard that the cooking grate for the new 26 will not fit an old 26 but I have no direct experience with that.

Good luck with the rehab!

I went through it today and it's not as bad as it looks. I straightened out the Lid handle as best as I could. The Lid had been droped atleast a couple times I straightened the lip around the lid. I drilled out the rusted out One Touch Cleaning System and straightened out the front leg. Called Weber and they had all the vital parts I needed but is was surprised to find out they don't have the grill or charcoal grate. Prices were very reasonable $38.65 with free shipping. I know I should have asked, but why wouldn't the New 26 grates fit in the old ones? Think I'll call them back today.

the new grates are bigger, as they sit higher up in the grill.

i managed to salvage the cooking grate. i used a few 'grill stones' lots of chemicals, and some steel brushes and steel wool.

for the charcoal grate, i now use two old 22" cooking grates. they sit up a little bit higher than the original charcoal grate, but it works out nicely.

I got some 3/4" expanded metal and cut to size for mine. I found an '85 26er that had never been fired up but the charcoal grate was lost along the way.
