I love the clean burning aspect vs. KB, but they are awfully proud of it! Anyone suggest an alternative? I've heard RO briquettes are comparable

I heard the same and have two bags of these to try this weekend.

Stubbs is good and the Chef's Select from Do It Best is good, just picked up 2 more bags today.

RO briqs will not get as hot as CompK, but I do use them for BBQ and grilling.

Stubbs or B&B oak briquets if you can find it.

I think Stubbs is decent, but not as good as Kingsford Comp. My test results
show that Kingsford is a superior product.

Costco carries two-packs at a good price.

My $0.02,

Indeed. I don't mind the extra expense of the K Comp because it is such a good fuel.

I've had good luck with this as well. I like it a bit better than Kcomp as it doesn't burn quite so hot and gives off a more pleasant aroma. They are BIG briquets, probably about 40% bigger than regular size.

If you are set on briquettes, I found that Humphrey's Premium Briquettes are very good. But if you are looking for high heat, look into RO lump. I find that it burns hotter than briqs.

Not every one has or use's that option. Heck...I have 3 different types of cookers and use them all for different things and many times, 3 different fuel sources.

As far as the OP goes, the best briquetes I've ever used were Rancher. I haven't seen them for years but have recently been informed that Trader Joe's brand briquetes is the same charcoal, just renamed for them. So I plan on stocking up.

I agree that K-Comp is pricey. But I also think that it's worth it...especially compared to Stubb's. I personally don't care for Stubb's much at all...but I really like the K-Comp Briquetes.
