My replacement parts for my $75 BGE score (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=128102)finally arrived, and I'm using this rainy day to start on it.

Has anyone ever replaced the bottom damper before? The old one seemed to have a seal of some sort the whole way around the perimeter of the inside of it, while the new stainless steel door didn't come with anything. Should I use some type of hi temp silicone?

I also got the spring assist bands for this one, and my other large. Anyone have any tips or advice for this part of the project?

I was thinking of replacing the gasket, but it's really not in bad shape at all.

If it were me I'd probably use high temp sealant of some kind. Remember when you tighten the bands the bolts are SUPPOSED to bend a little. I'll say it again, that is one heck of a score right there!

I've read that 100% silicone, clear works well. I don't think Egg exterior gets hot enough to need any super high temp caulk.

As for the band, I haven't installed one yet but do know you want it tight like fingerlickin' said. The last sight you want to see is something like what you'll see in bbqbull's post here (http://www.bbq-brethren.com/forum/showthread.php?t=117746).

Finally got around to finishing it up. After seeing the carnage in bbqbull's thread, I decided to buy a torque wrench to make sure I had the inital tightening down.

Shipping for the parts $15

Grand total $246

Getting ready now to fire her up for the first time!

Nice!

My first BGE was a freebie and it had the old style round Kamado cart, steel slide damper, daisy vent lid and scissor hinge. As soon as I got it loaded into my truck, I sped off to the local Egg dealer and ordered the platesetter, spring hinge, stainless door and DFMT! Cooked on it for a couple years until the base cracked, which BGE replaced for me (which I will forever be thankful for!) and its still pumpin' out the smoke!
