Has anyone used or had experience with any of these? They're reasonably priced, so I was thinking about it. Also- would these alright with real wood, or are they mainly just for charcoal.

If the Old Country offsets are built with quality similar to the jumbo charcoal starter they make I wouldn't mind having one.

Can recommend the starter enough, this thing is huge and beats the Weber starters I have.

I bought an old country offset vertical smoker. I absolutely love it! It is HEAVY steal. I haven't had any of these great expensive rigs but I had the option to chose between this Old Country smoker and an Egg style smoker... it was a no brainer, I went with the smoker that can cook twice as much and weighs more. Love my Old Country smoker!

And to answer ur other question..... You can use just charcoal but you will need a good basket for that. I like to throw some chunks or small logs on it to reach the higher temps.

I smoked 6 big racks of baby backs & a whole chicken all at once on her. It was nice. Another neat factor is you can grill over the fire pit while smoking in the vert chamber. Did some burgers while smoking chicken legs & pork steak
