After several months of pondering different smoker designs, I finally decided on the Superior SS-2. The quality of the sale from Joby is excellent. He always answers all my questions and never let a day or so go by without returning my phone call. I am going to pick up here in about a week in GA. I would appreciate any suggestions to start out with as I am gonna be brand new to the gravity feed charcoal design.

On another note, I have decided to build a Mini WSM. I ordered the SJ Gold along with the 32 qt Vasconia and extra replacement grill grate to fit the SJ (all from amazon). I plan on using this as my chicken cooker since I usually cook it a higher temp (~290*) than the pork smoking in the SS-2. I know the 14" ID is a little small but any of you guys who do comps ever use a Mini design for chicken? Any luck with it? What mods did you guys come up with to the design if any?

Thanks again for all the comments posted in my other thread helping me decide on my first "big time" smoker.

Have you measured that vasconia pot? I know everybody was using the Imusa pot (the one from China not Mexico) but I have not seen soembody post up using one of those pots. Curious cause I am lookin to mod my SJS prob this weekend.

I used the Vasconia pot on mine I built recently. Fit perfectly. Only difference I noticed it is a bit more heavy duty than the IMUSA as well as it has nice rubber handles on it.

I have the Vaconia. Fits great in my SJS. I gotta fire that thing up this weekend, it's been a while. Great little cooker! :thumb:

With the Vaconia pot, what hole pattern and size holes did you drill?
