Tri-Tip is one of my favorite cuts of meat and when I'm fortunate to get my hands on some I stock up (not readilly available near me). I've always grilled them hot & fast so I decided to try and smoke one today.

3lb TT w/ my usual rub......smoked @ 235 until 140 IT

Wrapped in foil for 20 min rest then sliced

Results.......was VERY good with IT consistent from end to end. Cooked very similar to Prime Rib. Normally when doing hot & fast ends tend to get well done by the time the middle is perfect. Only thing I would change is to keep the rub simple and basic next time like I do my Prime Rib. Will definitely try this again!

Great looking meal :thumb:

By no means am I a tri-tip pro but the few I have done I have to agree as this is similar to how I cook them. The only difference is I followed brethren suggestions to do a reverse seer and put it on a hot grill for a brief period per side. The internal doneness is consistent and the outside gets a good seer and crispiness.

Very nice, I don't reverse sear, that one looks quite nice.

That looks delicious! I'm a fan of the TT and cooked a few myself. That is dead on...

Looks great. I usually pull at 125-128 and reverse sear to get a little more color on the outside.

Looks great. I've done it both ways, and either way produces good eats.
