Stoker has a hinged door that swings freely within a hole that is slightly larger. Gravity keeps it closed when the blower is not on. There is no adjustable gate.
I'd like to know what the Guru has in place of the swinging door to keep air from getting into the firebox. thanks.

Guru fans have a metal slide that you can control if you want it fully or partially opened

When I used a Stoker, I modded the fan so that I could control the amount of air blowing into the smoker. I drilled a hole sized for a 2" 6-32 screw, threaded it, and used it to limit the movement of the "door" as needed.

So if there is no kind of door that closes when blower is not operating, is air allowed to flow in through the adjustable gate?

Yes air is allowed in at all times. How much just depends on where you have the gate positioned at.

That's odd. Some have said that stoker's blower set up might cause a little air to leak into the firebox, resulting in less temp control. If that's true, then it follows that Guru would have an even greater problem maintaining temps because air can freely get in through the unrestricted gate. Weird...

I think it's a non-issue.

Over the past five years, I have used the Guru on a Medium Spicewine, WSM's (18 & 22), and Green Egg (M & XL)... Non of these cookers required a Guru and I did not use it regularly but whenever I did it worked flawlessly in hot, cold or damp weather.

I prefer to keep the Guru gate closed 3/4 of the way if possible and like it to pump air on a more regular basis in shorter bursts.

Ditto.

No need to cut off all the air. What is coming in is minimal.
