up at 4am today to start the old stickburner for four pork butts for a charity gig tonight. Im dreaming of the day when I can start and set a gravity fed smoker and go back to bed! instead of tending my fire every 45 mins.....oh well.....off to keep my wood dry......:-D

Four pork butts fit just fine on a cheap little wsm and six or more hours of sleep is no problem! Of course you could spend a hundred more and cook eight butts.

I'm betting you could make a temp controller work on your stick-burner. I did that over twenty years ago with a simple contraption that opened and closed a damper. I had cooked a butt overnight, and noticed the next morning the dirt trail through the grass going out to my block pit, as well as the heavy eyelids! I felt the same as you - I would have also paid serious money! It can be done, I assure you!

I admire you guys who cook on stick burners mainly because of the effort put forth to get the final product. I'd have one myself if I had cheap/easy/free access to wood to use as fuel. I can't think of a better way to spend a Saturday than stoking a fire and sipping on a brew or three.

This speaks to why all of us need more than one cooker. I would love a Klose, Lang or Gator, but, I also love my UDS, could really enjoy a WSM, will never give up on a kettle, wouldn't mind a Spicewine. Each one has it's best and highest use.

Come over to the dark side and let Luke, Hanns and the Wookie stay up all night.

I love stoking my stick burner, but it sucks in the cold. I've got a CyberQ on order and that should help things out a bit.

However, a Stump's is on the wish list as well if I want to spend the day with my family instead of the OKJ.

I have two cabinet smokers, a superior ss-2 and an onyx oven. I have a digiQ on both as well. They will burn for 14+ hrs with hardly any attention. It makes the process so simple but kinda boring as well.

You could always sell that Pitmaker Sniper and buy a huge Stumps...
