This weekend I'm doing baby backs on the smoker for 10 people... Is 3 racks enough?

I plan on a half rack per person ,so I'd do at least five racks.

Yeah. 3 people per rack for spares, 2 per rack for babybacks.

Or if you want to save a little money, load up on the sides so folks don't eat quite so many ribs.

Dinner-style, with sides and all the fixin's, 3 racks should be fine (about 3-4 bones per person).

Just ribs to make ribs, with maybe one other thing? May want to go half-rack per person.

Depends on you and your crowd. If it's a bunch of men who love Q, they can easily kill off a rack per man. Teenagers - half a rack. Women - 3 ribs. Kids - 1, maybe 2.

You get to decide tho if you want these folks chomping down on ribs or if you want to do up all the sides (tater salad, beans, bread, pickle slices, onion, tea & nanner puddin), you could - repeat "COULD" - limit everyone to 3-4 ribs and let em fill up on the other stuff. If you make up the nanner puddin, there's gonna be someone like me who loves the dickins out of that stuff, so make a lot.

One last suggestion, not everyone may want ribs so ask em in advance if they wants ribs or maybe some chicken or sausage. Course kids go ape for hotdogs and teens love burgers.

I'd buy 2 of the packs of baby backs at Costco. They come with 3 racks in them.

I don't mind leftovers.

I plan on having a whole chicken as well... .just for kicks... it really doesn't compare when you are eating ribs.

plus there will be all the side items, but like you guys said, "nothing wrong with leftovers"

5 women, 5 guys. I may end up doing 4 racks just to be safe.

thanks for the input.

I have a similar question. I have six adults and six kids, all under the age of 8. I was planning on 2 racks of spares and about 15-20 chicken thighs. I also have corn, biscuits, potatoes, with moinks/ABTs to get things started.

Are two racks enough, or should I throw on a third?

Wouldn't think of opening another three pack for just ten and that should be plenty as long as you have at least one filling side like potato salad or beans.

If i did a pork but on top of 3 racks of bb and a chicken I'd have to start charging my family to attend! lol

Assuming that all of your guests are small women and children, 3 would be fine...Otherwise, 3 slabs will be gone before you get your own plate out..

I hate telling guests they can only "have this much" or "please go easy"..Good sides help, but no one wants to fill up on beans and tater salad...Better to have too much than not enough IMO..

If you're buying from SAMs or Costco you have a problem. From a butcher it's easy, just get 4 or 5 slabs and all is good. I normally cut a full slab of thick loin backs into thirds, with sides this is a nice amount. if you don't mind a few left overs or you have some big eaters coming I guess 6 slabs might be ok and not a problem. Same thing always happens to me...
I can't decide!

Yup. 1/2 rack per person.

With baby backs, 1/2 rack per.

By the way Smokin Bruin, that's a fine cigar band you have in your avatar. Got a couple boxes in my humidor.
