Here is the CL listing:
"This is the forerunner to "The Big Green Egg". It is 21" in diameter and stands about 32" high. That is slightly smaller than the 24" extra large Big Green Egg which will cook two 20 lb. turkeys or 24 burgers or 11 whole chickens or 12 steaks! This one will cook just a slight bit less for a lot less money! You cook with charcoal and can add smoked wood chips. Comes with rolling wood base and a couple extra parts. $350. "
If this is in good shape, is it worth $350 or what ever deal can be struck?

I have a different opinion on stuff like this than a lot of the guys, but I wouldn't take that if it were free. It looks beat to crap and appears to be missing the lower vent door and the top that is on there is the top that you use for storage and to put out the fire. I don't see the normal top with the vent opening.
I also think that are exaggerating just a little  on the cooking capacity. You can't fit two 20 lb turkeys or 11 whole chickens in an XL BGE and this is smaller that that. Maybe they are OK on the burgers and steaks, if they are small.
In addition, it's probably clay, which means no high heat cooks like steaks, burgers, pizzas, etc.
If you want a project and they have the other parts and the internal ceramics are in good shape offer them $100.
But again, I am probably not in the majority on this sort of thing. I just don't need any more projects :)

$600 worth of problems for just $350? Might be a bargain!

Funny and a long shot but that might be the one my folks had in the late sixties/early 70's when I was a kid growing up on the South Side of Spokane. Looks exactly like it. I believe The Import Market which was at Boone and Monroe sold them. It is now an REI store.

I would say if you really want it offer him less for it. I would think you can buy a bge daisy wheel top, a vent door for the bottom and maybe a new gasket for around a hundred bucks.

FWIW, I bought mine for $10.00, TEN
I have a feeling the rolling wood base is nothing more than a flower pot stand on wheels.
Save your money Al!

That thing looks pretty beat up. I saw a brand new clay smoker in Bass Pro Shop for $499.00 with the cart.

If you are patient and look over Craigslist the, real BGEs show up every now and then. That guy wants way too much money for the work involved IMHO.
I have bought 2 Japanese Kamados over the last 4 years and restored them. They go with my 3 BGEs. Remember that the older Kamado was from pottery that would not take heat over 350-400F.
This one was bought at an estate sale and had a rotisserie option and was set up to have a propane burner on the bottom instead of charcoal.
Paid $10 and $200 later with sandblasting, paint fire ring gasket: I do not cook much over 350-375F"

Fun project. Have done 2 and no desire for another unless the price is right.

That one looks like its in good shape to me. The older ones like that one (has the ears) is about 50 years old. The clay block you see sitting on the grill is what you use to control the air intake. I smoke out of mine every week and it works awesome.

You can buy lids like this on line for adjusting how much air gets out.

If you could get it for 250.00 or less you are getting a great deal. Just make sure the inside is not blown out because those parts can be real expensive to replace.
The one your looking at is just like mine. The grill is 18" dia. I put a rib rack on it and have cooked up to 5 racks of spares at a time.
They are not grills. Thats what your weber is for. :-D If you just want it for smoking it will do that just as well if not better then the BGE.
There are not to many of these left. If you are just using it for low and slow smoking this thing will blow your mind. I hook up a maverick temp to it to keep a eye on the temps. They use hardly any fuel at all for a cook.

Invest the $350 you will save by passing on this vintage traditional style Kamado with a plug damper that couldn't cook one 20 lb turkey let alone two and put a down payment on a new demo Large Big Green Egg at the upcoming Pacific Northwest Evergreen Eggfest at AES in Kent WA. on June 9th.
Anyone that thinks $250 is a good deal on a 50 year old claypot Kamado can swing by my place, flash the cash and be the proud new owner of one of mine!
Actually the one in the pic is a Hibachi Pot (outline of mountain in the dome is the giveaway) I'll be in Cheney, I can bring one for you!

Yeah i was not aware I could get 11 chickens or 2 20lb turkeys on an xl . I love exaggerations on CL.
I would offer a lot less, which he will probably say no to, but tell him if he doesn't get any better offers he can call you back. I am not a big project guy so I wouldn't even try, but for some people they are a dream come true. Good luck.
