So I had a crazy idea and before I execute it I figured I would ask.

My birthday is coming up at the end of March and I'm planning on going all out on BBQ. One thing on the list is going to be ribs. I wanted to try a different technique though than usual. Instead of rubbing the rubs with mustard or olive oil and then applying the dry rub, what if I were to coat them with honey and throw on my rub? Would the honey burn and get all gross by the time I was done smoking? If so, what if I were to baste them in honey when I foiled them?

Ideas? Thoughts? Suggestions? Buehler? Buehler?...

I think the honey would burn, or run off . I always add honey, or agave necter when foiling.

Don't know about a honey slather at the beginning, might burn depending on your cooking temp. I like to baste them in honey and margarine when foiling then a little splash of apple juice as I close the foil. Think that's pretty common.

I add brown sugar with the honey and margarine. the temps have a lot to do with wether the sugar burns or not. Should be fine low and slow 225-250.
