Is this even possible without it spoiling? I have some friends that live in Brisbane, Australia and I would love to send them some pulled pork. Thing is, I have no idea how to do it without it spoiling. My original plan was to make it, freeze it, wrap it up in newspaper, through it in a styrofoam box, wrap that in newspaper and put that in another box.
Do you think it would last? Next thing I worry about is how much it's gonna cost me to ship it.

Involves packing with dry ice, vac-seal, and thick styrofoam boxes.

Cost will be on the heavy side.

I guess you need to have dry ice and styrofoam boxes.

Do not forget to have your shipment declared by Australian customs. I believe they are strict on food import.. Here is a link to their website.. http://www.daff.gov.au/aqis/travel/entering-australia/cant-take

Send them money to buy a pig along with instructions on making pulled pork and ya will probably come out cheaper.Shipping overseas is real expensive.

A non-stop flight from Chicago to Brisbane is a minimum 16 hours and if the planes have to make stops (which is highly likely), it could be pushing 25-35 hours. That's not including the time it would take you to drop it off at FedEx (or wherever) and have them take it to the airport. Then when it gets to Brisbane, it would take more time to get off the plane, onto a truck, routed, and delivered. You'd be looking at closer to 50-60 hours where it would need to stay at a safe temperature.
I'm a librarian, so I enjoy doing research. I was curious about what it would cost to ship, so I started doing a mock shipment... it doesn't look like FedEx will ship food that needs to be cold.
From the FedEx site:
Foods, Perishable: FedEx prohibits the international shipment of foods and beverages that require refrigeration or other environmental controls.

I was going to send some ribs to a friend in Moscow and after researching shipping policies on FedEx, found they will not ship food items that need to be refrigerated.

Australia is one of the worst countries to get food into. Even jerky is not allowed in. USDA or not.

Slick, I think the best thing to do is to ship it to me. I will make sure it gets to your friends.

You are better off flying to Australia, building a UDS and cooking for them.
I hate it when you want to do something, and red tape makes it danged near impossible. So, I'd say this is the perfect excuse to take a vacation down under!! Go see them, and cook it for them right there. Start checking airfares!! :thumb:

They can have it fresh.
I'm doing a couple of BBQ demonstrations and dinner events in March over the WA side in Perth. You could forward them the information and they make the trip from East to West. I will see to it they get a Brethren discount. We fly out of the UK on the 11th of March.
These are the first two 'open' events that are still available...
March 17th.
