Just started building my second uds. Hopefully I can improve on the first one which turned out pretty good. The last picture is my first build at the Garry Maddox BBQ contst

Love that "Honey Jar" barrel. I just had visions of sweet sauce on some baby backs.

That's the idea. The Honey Bears bbq team. Sometimes we get it right.

Man, I just love my UDS, and I've also thought about building a second one. Your drums look mighty fine!

Let me save you some trouble next time.
Unlined drums dont really need to be burnt out.
Primer is pretty much a waste of money.
Hi Heat paint is definetly a waste of money.

Think simple. Its a drum. :)

Thanks for the tips. I just wanted to be sure that all the mineral oil was out of the drum and washing it just didn't seem enough.

So, why is high heat paint a waste of money?? Are you saying that low temp paint won't burn at 450 degrees??

Where do you get your drum for a build like this? Its a project I would like to undertake in the future as an alternative to my chargriller...

No, I'm saying most drums don't run above 350.

If your drum sides get above that temp, hi temp paint isint going to save your finish. :thumb:
