Smoking woods

I am cutting down some Maple trees and not sure if all Maple is good for smoking. I know sugar maple is but I am cutting down a couple Silver Maples. Is it Okay cook with or just burn it in the fire pit

Jules, if you go to the search box at the bottom of this page and type in "silver maple", you will find many threads on the subject.

I live in Sugar Maple country and never have used Silver Maple for anything.

i have used maple before, but only the coals from a fire barrel. we burned the maple in a barrel, then shovel the coals into the pit.

I was thinking of running it through a shredar and making a really big pile of maple wood chips.

I did that once and I regret it to this day. Still giving away farking cherry chips 2 years later :mad:
