After talking with a few brethren about using CL to find a pit, I came across an ad for a Masterbuilt 7 in one cooker. It was listed locally in an ad with some household stuff. At first, I was not interested, figuring I should probably save my $ for a WSM or complete my UDS build. But, $40 was a pretty good deal. I figured if it was not that great, at least I could use the propane burner to fry turkey or melt lead. Well, it turns out that the guy who owned it, used it ONCE to smoke game birds, it resided in his basement since then. When I went to see it, it looked like itt came out of the box. SO I am pretty happy with my first smoker that I did not make.
Now all I need is the wind to die down and go get some meat!

It is black, it was a bad picture off of CL.
I fired up just the propane burner today and it burns nice, so I can see that being used for a turkey or accessory frier, or when I do not want to use charcoal (heaven forbid!). Anyway, I got to take a look in the sunlight and it is really clean. The guy took good care of it.

I scored some 18" pizza pans and some other kitchen accessory stuff at the local flea market today. My lucky picking hat came through.

I have one just like it but never use it anymore. They work good if it not too cold or windy.

So, I decided to try it out this evening. So I had some Jalapenos I just bought and figured, why not test it on them....So, I took 12 or so Kingsford briquets and hit them with my weed burner and got them hot and after they burned off a bit stacked the smoker and added 3 pieces of sliced Cherry I just got from the orchard. After I got a decent blue smoke, I put on the peppers. They have been on about an hour or so, I guess we will see.
The pictures are here:

For some reason it doesn't like Facebook Code :(

Post cook:
The peppers dehydrated pretty well, and they are dark with good smoke smell, did not taste any because I want to dehydrate them in the oven so I can grind them. Plus I ran out of time.

I did notice some issues:
Keeping temperature constant was not easy. It was around 38 degrees outside when I started it up and dropped to around 28 by 11 pm when I finished up for the night. The wind was prety calm.
I should have tested the thermometer before using it. It is not great and I did not trust it so I used my infared from work and an analog chef thermometer I had, to check things. It stayed around 225-230 for the most part but had a few spikes to 270-280. I need to replace the unit thermometer before doing meat.
There are some smoke leaks at each join, I guess some stove gasket rope is in order.
I need to do something with the charcoal pan. Ashes clog the air vents occasionally.

Anyone know of any mods for this cooker? I did a cursory search, but my search foo is weak...
